Work station ergonomics

Ergonomics is a science concerned with the ‘fit’ between people and their work. Repetitive strain injury (RSI) is one of a number of general names given to a range of potentially disabling conditions – others include work-related upper limb disorders (WRULDs), overuse injuries and cumulative trauma disorder.

Poor ergonomics can lead to excessive stress and strain to structures in the body which can ultimately lead to pain and tissue damage. It often occurs in people who work with computers or carry out repetitive manual work.

Can Billericay Physiotherapy help?

YES! Physiotherapy can help by allowing you to understand the possible causes of your pain and plan a rehabilitation programme to address the possible causes and symptoms. Discussion and if needed assessment of your workstation set up, job specific postures and work patterns will form the basis of your recovery. A specific, progressive Home Exercise Programme to improve flexibility and postural strength will be essential to manage your pain. ‘Hands On’ Therapy including mobilisations, manipulations, stretches and massage may also be used to return normal movement and function to the affected structures.
