Post-Surgery Rehabilitation

Orthopaedic Surgery is a term which covers any surgery to bones, joints and soft tissue including muscle, tendons and ligaments. The aim of the surgery is to try to rectify or relieve any problems caused by disease or trauma in these structures. The actual surgery is only part of the solution to these problems and to maximise recovery takes time and effort on the part of the patient.

Can Billericay Physiotherapy help?

YES! Physiotherapy can help by allowing you to understand the nature of your surgery, your body’s healing process and the best way to maximise your recovery from it. Depending on the amount of time you have been suffering prior to your operation, will determine how much you have compensated due to your symptoms. These compensations will lead to stiffness, tightness and weakness in the joints and soft tissues.

A specific, progressive Home Exercise Programme to improve range of movement, strength and function of the affected area will form the basis of your treatment. ‘Hands On’ Therapy including mobilisations, stretches, massage and gait re-education may also be used to optimise your recovery.
