Arthritis

Acute or chronic inflammation of one or more joints, usually accompanied by pain and stiffness, resulting from infection, trauma, degenerative changes, autoimmune disease, or other causes.

Osteoarthritis is a condition that affects your joints. The surfaces within your joints become damaged so the joint doesn’t move as smoothly as it should. The Older terms are degenerative joint disease or wear and tear. Some of the cartilage that covers the ends of the bones roughens and becomes thin, which causes the bones to thicken. The bones can then rub against each other and begin to wear.

This is a group of conditions that affect the immune system. Rheumatoid arthritis, ankylosing spondylosis and psoriatic arthritis are the most common forms. This is when your own body defences start to attack your own body tissue instead of viruses and germs, causing pain, stiffness and joint damage.
